On August 14, 2008, congress enacted the Higher Education Opportunity Act. Aimed at publishers, this legislation was designed as a part of efforts to help college students. The law requires universities to make textbook information available to the public at the time of registration. This enables students to know the cost of textbooks required for their specific class schedule. To comply with this law, Belmont designates the campus store’s website as the hub for textbook related information. This means that we need your help in making sure your book decisions are made and submitted to the bookstore on or before the designated due date. This gives the bookstore staff time to input the necessary data and have the information posted through the website in time for registration.
To submit textbook orders, you can use the online portal available through the store’s website. The look has changed a little but still works the same. If you have any trouble with the new layout, please feel free to contact us and we will happily walk you through the process.
You will still need to notify us if you won’t be using a book for your class. This will help us stay in compliance with the law as well as see any gaps in adoptions. When a book is required, but an adoption is not provided to us, it hurts the students bound by financial aid. Nearly 50% of Belmont students use their student account to charge their books, and by the time students notify the campus store of the books they need, the book we must order is usually brand new and ends up costing the student more money as cheaper options may not be available. This also causes the students a great amount of stress because they have assignments that they can’t complete until their book arrives.
We are committed to serving you and the students of this campus. If you ever have any questions or need assistance from the bookstore, you are always welcome to call, email, or visit the store. We take pride in being a university-owned store that returns funds to Belmont University’s operating budget every year and we are here to help you and our students succeed.
